LAW + DIGITAL ADDICTION

At the end of last episode. . .

We posed a challenge for listeners. In an effort to disrupt our collective addiction to screens and digital entertainment, we invited you to take a digital time-out.

What inspired this convo?

Concept Nest is driven by its values, including critical thinking and mindfulness. Digital addiction is one of the biggest threats to mindfulness. It can prevent your mind from aimlessly wandering, formulating new ideas, and thinking critically. This means you can miss out on business and personal opportunities by tuning out of the moment.

There are still many wonderful elements of social media, such as connecting with friends, garnering support for wholesome causes, catching up with family, and exploring new business relationships. However, these positives can easily morph into crutches. This is not only true for adults, but it is especially true for adolescents.

To dive deeper into this all-too-familiar phenomenon, we decided to connect with someone at the forefront of digital wellness, Maddie Basha. Maddie is a lawyer for her father's firm, Social Media Victims Law Center. Her dad, Matt Bergman, spent many years of his decorated law career advocating for victims of asbestos exposure. He has since shifted his sights toward a pressing concern for youth today, social media addiction. Since the launch of their firm in 2021, they have captured the attention of media outlets and talk shows, including but not limited to:

+ Dr. Phil

+ Good Morning America

+ USA Today

+ ABC News

+ 60 Minutes

Problems are opportunities for solutions.

We hope this episode sheds some light on a very serious issue, while inspiring parents, caregivers, and creatives to. . .

+ teach kids about critical thinking and mindfulness

+ advocate for the regulation of social media companies
